Florida USA Rating:   College Referee Solves Achilles Tendonitis With Ultrasound and Inferno At the age of 48 I have figured out that my body (muscles, etc) is not keeping up with the activities I want to persue. I am very active and referee high school and college basketball. At 44 I ruptured my right achilies tendon while refereeing a ball game. After surgery I was determined to keep this from happening again.
Four years later, I started experencing burning and pain in the other achilies tendon. I went to the orthopedist and he started me on physical therapy. PT consisted of ultrasound treatments. More Facts About Achilles Tendonitis:
The achilles tendon does not have a rich blood supply. Blood supply is weakest at a point between 2 and 6 cm above its insertion into the calcaneus (heel).
Ignoring pain in the achilles tendon (ie. "running through the pain") is the biggest cause of chronic achilles tendonitis.
The achilles tendon is the connection between the heel and the most powerful muscle group in the body.
Sudden increases in running and or active sprinting sports can cause achilles tendonitis.
Excessive running up and down hills can aggravate the achilles tendon.
Stiff shoe soles at the ball of the foot will increase achilles tendon strain.
Excessive heel shock absorption can overstretch the achilles tendon.
Tight hamstrings and/or tight calf muscles create excess strain on the achilles tendon.

I injured my Achilles tendon during college baseball many years ago. It has been a nagging injury since and has prevented me pursuing many activities. I gave up trying to run several years ago due to the pain. I have been to several orthopedists, podiatrists, and a neuromuscular specialist with little to no results.

I came across your site online while trying to research how to deal with my badly strained Achilles tendon. I ordered your portable ultrasound and 10 bottles of the necessary gel. I am thrilled with the results so far. The ultrasound wand is easy to use; the booklet was very informative and very professionally done. CO, USA Marathon Runner Using Ultrasound To Treat Achilles, Hip, and Hamstring Pain
The MendMeShop ultrasound device I bought has been a great purchase...well worth the money. The ultrasound gel seems so much better than the gel they use at the physical therapy or chiropractic offices.
I initially bought the ultrasound device for an Achilles problem, and that was taken care of within 3 weeks. I am a runner who competes in races ranging from a mile to the marathon distance and competes in duathlons and triathlons.
In January I had a severe injury of my hamstring. I took it easy, iced, and waited for the pain to go away (at this point I had not heard about a home ultrasound device.) I was able to continue running after the pain lessened, but my range of motion was limited. My right leg was tight because of the hamstring injury. In May I was running in a boot camp class and re-injured the hamstring. An MRI showed a right hamstring strain and extensive bursitis of the right hip.
I began using the ultrasound device 3 times a day and I can say that my hamstring and hip are pain free. I have not had this much flexibility/range of motion in my right leg for over a year and a half.

I guess I am getting older, and well anyway, I ended up tearing my Achilles tendon. The pain was excrutiating. After having it checked by a doctor and a specialist, they informed there wasn't anything that could be done but to stay off of it. I went to a Massage therapist and he helped considerably. I got online and found this company. I couldn't have been happier. The Ultrasound I purchased along with the gel was perfect for my recuperation. Two years ago, I was diagnosed with Achilles Tendonitis and Plantar Fasciitis, I have no idea as to how I became injured, but it was there and it became so difficult to walk at times, especially after getting up from a resting position, that I had to seriously address it. I went to a podiatrist and after trying several treatments such as physical therapy, prescription orhtotics and acupuncture there was no improvement, so the subject of surgery was suggested by the podiatrist. I was totally opposed to surgery.

I had suffered from an acute form of Achilles tendonitis for around 8 months. The pain caused me a lot of grief over that time. I have been using the MendMeShop ultrasound unit for 2 months now and I am pretty well pain free now. In fact, my pain is basically gone. I use it regularly and before I exercise. After finishing exercise, I use the Freezie Ankle Wrap I bought from you guys and then I use the ultrasound after that. In addition, my wife was recently suffering from hip pain and wondered what she could do about it. The manual stated the ultrasound could be used over the area, so we applied a few treatments. She responded very positively, her pain practically disappeared.

MendMeShop® Ultrasound Information
To reduce the risk of injury, burns, electrical shock, and/or fire, this product must be used in accordance with the following instructions:
- Keep out of reach of children and do not use on anyone under the age of 16 without express approval from a physician.
- Never use without ultrasound conductive gel.
- Never leave unit plugged in while not in use, or unattended while in operation.
- Keep unit clean to prevent cross-infection.
- Do not use in combination with other electronic equipment.
- Do not use when under the influence of alcohol, drugs or mind altering medication or when suffering from extreme fatigue.
- Do not submerge the unit in water or other liquid. If unit gets wet, place it in a dry area to dry out for at least 24 hours before attempting to use again.
- Wait 45 minutes after an Ultrasound treatment before beginning an Inferno Wrap® or cold compression treatment, thereby allowing the body to return to normal body temperature.
- Consult your doctor or therapist before using this ultrasound device.
Contraindications
MendMeShop® highly recommends that you consult a physician before using this ultrasound device. Use of this device is not recommended:
- on patients with hemophilia, abnormal blood pressure, spina bifida, surgical laminectomies of the spine, malignancies, or infectious diseases
- over infected tissue or bone
- on areas that are not within a normal body temperature range (i.e. recently iced or heated areas)
- over open sores, lesions, or sunburned skin
- over implants of any sort including plastic, silicon, cement or metal (including metal mesh)
- over the skull area or face
- over areas suspected to be cancerous or pre-cancerous
- over mucous membranes (mouth, nose, rectum, anus, vagina)
- over numb areas of the skin
- on patients with electronic implants such as pacemakers
- over the midsection area of pregnant females (including lower back, abdomen, groin and lumbar area) or females suspected of being pregnant
- directly over organs including sex organs, thyroid (upper front of neck), liver, stomach, lungs, spleen, bowels, kidneys, heart
- for use anywhere above the neck (this includes over areas such as the eyes, ears and temple)
- over areas injected with medication or a steroid (i.e. cortisone) within the last 30 days
If you are unable to use ultrasound due to any of the contraindications listed above, using an Inferno Wrap® for Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy can achieve similar treatment results.
Lavender Infusion Ultrasound Gel Information
- Gel is intended for external use only. Do not ingest.
- Gel contains natural anti-inflammatory ingredients that may react to sensitive skin. If irritation occurs discontinue use and call our customer service department.
Inferno Wrap® Information
To reduce the risk of injury, burns, electrical shock, and/or fire, this product must be used in accordance with the following instructions:
- Take care to avoid dehydration from overuse when using your Inferno Wrap®.
- Do not plug device in and leave unattended.
- This device is not meant for use nor should be accessible to children or infants.
- Do not use during sleep.
- This wrap is not to be used on a person with poor blood circulation unless monitored carefully.
- Regularly check your skin under the wrap for redness or reaction.
- The Inferno Wrap® should never be used near water (nor submersed in water) or any other liquid when plugged in.
- Remove Energy Web® before washing.
- If you pull your wrap by the power cord it may damage the unit.
- Wait 45 minutes after an Inferno Wrap® treatment before beginning an ultrasound or cold compression treatment, thereby allowing the body to return to normal body temperature.
- Do not attempt to diagnose or self-treat any disease or condition without direct supervision or advice of a physician.
Surgical Implants:
Metal pins, rods, artificial joints, or any other surgical implants generally are not heated by the Inferno Wrap® system. Nevertheless, a person should consult his or her surgeon before receiving such therapy. Certainly discontinue use if a person experiences pain near any implants.
Silicone will absorb energy emitted by the Energy Web®. Implanted silicone or silicone prostheses may be warmed by the treatment. As silicone melts at over 200 degrees Celsius, it should not be adversely affected by the Inferno Wrap® system; however, it is still advised that a person checks with his or her physician/surgeon to be certain.
Malignancy (Cancer or other Malignant conditions):
Do not use the Inferno Wrap® without express approval by your physician.
Contraindications
- Pregnancy: If you are pregnant or suspicious that you are pregnant, discontinuation of the Inferno Wrap® is recommended.
- Haemorrhage: Haemophiliacs and anyone predisposed to haemorrhage should avoid usage of this product or any other type of heating that would create vasodilation, potentially leading to a tendency to bleed.
- Pain: Pain should not be experienced when using the Inferno Wrap®. If pain is experienced, discontinue use of the product.
Freezie Wrap® Information
- Do not keep the wrap on longer than 20 minutes as skin irritation may occur. If treating an area with limited skin, fat or muscle decrease time to 10 minutes.
- Do not use the wrap if you suffer from Raynaud's, diabetes, sensitivity to cold or any medical condition with reduced blood flow to the arms or legs.
- Wait 45 minutes after a cold therapy treatment before beginning an ultrasound or Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy treatment, thereby allowing the body to return to normal body temperature.
- Do not sleep with cold pack on.
- If abnormal pain, swelling or unusual reactions are experienced while using this product, remove and discontinue use and seek advice from your medical professional.
Consult your medical professional before beginning any treatments.

Achilles Tendon Facts
There are over 250,000 achilles tendon injuries each year in the US.
One quarter of Achilles tendon injuries involve professional medical intervention.
Males experience Achilles injuries more often than females due to higher participation in sports and genetic difference.
Achilles tendonitis accounts for an estimated 11% of running injuries.
3-5% of athletes are forced to leave their sports career due to Achilles tendon overuse injuries that go untreated.
Oral Medications can mask the pain but do not aid in the healing of Achilles tendonitis. Anti-inflammatories, cortisone injections, and pain killers can cause Achilles tendonitis to worsen.
A fully ruptured tendon REQUIRES surgery. It will not heal on its own.
Achilles tendonitis and Achilles tendinitis are the same thing.
Continually using your Achilles tendon while it is injured will lead to a more serious and/or chronic injury.
